BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 is now rolling out to compatible devices

Today, BlackBerry announced that the rollout of its latest version of the operating system has begun. BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 is being installed on seven of the company’s devices, namely the Q5, Q10, Z10, Z30, Z3, Porsche Design P’9983as good as Passport. The Classic BlackBerry is not on this list because it already comes with BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 pre-installed.

So now this iteration of the operating system is finally on its way to the rest of the Canadian company’s recent mobile device portfolio.

The update brings a lot of new stuff along with the usual bug fixes and improvements. The Amazon Appstore is now pre-installed, alongside BlackBerry World. Amazon’s showcase has so far been limited to the Passport, but it will now be found on all BlackBerry 10 devices.

Moving on, the update contains BlackBerry Blend. This is a feature that brings email and content from your BlackBerry to your computer or tablet effortlessly.

BlackBerry Assistant is this company’s entrant into the increasingly crowded virtual assistant space. It can take voice and text commands. The BlackBerry Hub won Instant Actions, a feature that lets you quickly organize your inbox without having to go into each message.

Hotkeys are back for the Q5, Q10, Porsche Design P’9983 and Passport. Your power saving profile can now be customized, allowing for an increase in battery life of up to 15%. The camera has new functions, among which automatic recommendations. You now get 17 preset equalizer options for media, and you can add favorite songs, photos or videos, so you can easily access them.

The new Calendar Meeting Mode will automatically set your phone to silent mode for the duration of a meeting, then turn notifications back on when the meeting is over. There is also a new weekly agenda view. Finally, BBM Meetings is integrated with the latest version of BlackBerry OS, which should be good news for companies.

When BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 is ready to download and install on your phone, you will receive a notification in the BlackBerry Hub. Of course, carriers might slow down the rollout, so if you bought your device from one of them, you might have a longer wait.
