Mandy is chasing her dreams once again!

She’s been called the “deadpan mistress of the arts,” and Diane Morgan is often the best or funniest character on the shows she appears, eclipsing their biggest names.

In recent years, the Boltonian actress has garnered acclaim for her roles as Philomena Cunk, the sub-moron interviewer on Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe, stressed and upbeat mom Liz, Liz, and Netflix publicity director Kath. by Ricky Gervais. dramatic comedy after life.

But in 2019, Morgan got the chance to write, direct, and star in his own sitcom. Initially, Mandy debuted as a 15-minute single short film as part of the BBC’s Comedy Shorts installment in July 2019, before launching a six-part series a year later.

It recounted the life of the eponymous anti-heroine, a woman with “big dreams” trying to stay afloat in the age of the odd-job economy.

Throughout the series, we’ve seen Mandy attempt (and spectacularly fail) as an arachnid control officer in a banana factory and a staff member at a fried chicken shop, as well as participate in a online dance competition and perform in an advertisement for a payday loan company.

Mandy was a hit with viewers and the show was shortlisted for Best New TV Sitcom at the comedy.co.uk Awards.

Following the extended (five-minute) festive special, We Wish You a Mandy Christmas, in which she contemplated the true meaning of Christmas, the second full series begins tonight.

This will once again see Mandy chasing her dreams through even weirder, short-lived jobs.

During the race, she appears on a truly out of the ordinary reality show and takes on the most unattractive job in the sewage industry.

But she begins tonight by taking on the role of tour guide to a stately home in Brampton Hall.

Then, in the second episode, Mandy finds herself on Who Are You, Do You Think – a “fictional” genealogy show.

Morgan says: “In this time of debate over the future of the BBC, a second Mandy series couldn’t be more timely.

“If anything proves the value of the company, it’s a show about a woman who wants to breed Doberman Pinschers. It’s not something you would get on Amazon Prime or BFI Player.

Other beloved characters from the show will also be back, including Michelle Greenidge as Lola, Mandy’s close friend and confidante at the local nail salon, and Tom Basden as Mandy’s Benefits Manager. . Mark Silcox, Alistair Green and Michael Spicer are also back.

Additionally, Jackie Clune, Nigel Ng, Chris Cantrill, William Andrews, David Mills, Yuriko Kotani and Stuart Goodwin will appear in the first installment tonight, with Richard Hope, Charlie Chuck and Deborah Meaden of Dragons’ Den in the second.

Sir Tom Courtenay, Anna Maxwell Martin, Nick Mohammed, Alexei Sayle, Peter McDonald, Jo Hartley, Roger Sloman, Kate Robbins, Nigel Planer, Konnie Huq and Professor Brian Cox will all appear later in the race, all available on the BBC iPlayer .

Unlike the overly optimistic main character, it’s probably unwise to hope that this new series will bring Mandy closer to her dream of raising Doberman Pinschers and owning the furniture of her dreams.

Still, it’s great to see Morgan in the foreground, and Mandy is definitely a fun way to spend 15 minutes of your time, or half an hour if you’re feeling adventurous and watching the first two.
