If you’re still holding onto the old device, well, we’ve got some bad news.
Old services for a number of BlackBerry devices will no longer be available after January 4.
Mario marcoAs of Tuesday, January 4, phones and tablets running BlackBerry’s older software, also known as BlackBerry 7.1 or earlier, Blackberry 10, or BlackBerry Playbook, will lose all support, the company said in a statement.
Right now, either you crease your brow in confusion, having forgotten that BlackBerry even existed many years ago, or (if you’re one of the thousands of BlackBerry purists) raising your arms to the sky while emitting a tortured howl.
The loss of support is as hard as it sounds: Phones will no longer receive patches, and even basic functions like calling, data, texting, and emergency calling may stop working. The phone is about as dead as a phone can get, although BlackBerry devices running Android will continue to work.
If you are on the verge of going without a phone, then your choices boil down to two directions: the iPhone, using the iOS operating system, or an Android phone. Check out the most popular options below.
