If you’re still clinging to the legacy device, well, we have bad news.
Legacy services for a number of BlackBerry devices will no longer be available after January 4.
Mario-MarcoStarting Tuesday, Jan. 4, phones and tablets running BlackBerry legacy software, also known as BlackBerry 7.1 or earlier, Blackberry 10 or BlackBerry Playbook, will lose all support, the company said in a statement.
Right now, you’re either frowning in confusion, having forgotten BlackBerry even existed years ago, or (if you’re one of the thousands of BlackBerry purists) throwing your arms skyward while yelling tortured.
Losing support is as hard as it sounds: phones will no longer receive patches, and even basic functions such as calls, data, texts and emergency calls may stop working . The phone is about as dead as a phone can get, although BlackBerry devices running Android will still work.
If you’re on the verge of going phoneless, your choices boil down to two directions: the iPhone, running the iOS operating system, or an Android phone. Check out the most popular options below.
