Yahoo is killing bulletin boards, the BlackBerry app, etc.

Yahoo will be phasing out a number of its products over the coming months in an effort to focus more on its most important assets. On April 1, Message Boards, Avatars, Sports IQ, Clues, and the Yahoo app for BlackBerry devices will all be shut down, although parts of the services will continue to operate. The Yahoo Finance and Fantasy Sports discussion boards will continue to live on, and although they are no longer updated or officially supported, users with the Yahoo BlackBerry app already installed will be able to continue using it.

The cuts are just the latest big change at Yahoo

The cuts are just one facet of an ongoing series of big changes at Yahoo. After hiring ex-Googler Marissa Mayer last summer to try to turn the tide, Yahoo recently unveiled a complete overhaul of its homepage and messaging services. Yahoo Platforms executive vice president Jay Rossiter said the closures were the result of “a lot of thought and deliberation,” but “the most critical question we ask is whether the experience is really a success. daily habit that still resonates with all of you today ”. The answer to this question was obviously “no”. It’s not clear whether the company will develop a new Yahoo app for the BlackBerry 10 platform, or whether it thinks its mobile site – also recently redesigned – is sufficient for BlackBerry users.
